Just when you thought January would be spent on the sofa, eating leftover chocolate coins, and counting down the days until the 6 Nations starts…it is back, DODDIE AID 2022.
And our NEW Doddie Aid app is THE way to take part.WHAT IS DODDIE AID?
Doddie Aid is a mass participation event, encouraging you to get active in January and raise funds to help find a cure to Motor Neuron Disease. It was founded by former Scotland captain and British and Irish Lion , Rob Wainwright and raised a staggering £1M in January 2021, with 27,000 of you taking part 💪
Participants choose a district to represent, and log their miles using the app , with the winning district being the one which covers the furthest distance over the duration of the event. Last year, we logged enough miles to go round the world 87 TIMES…so no pressure!
It couldn’t be easier to join in:
1️⃣ Download the Doddie Aid app to take part
2️⃣ Choose a district to represent, donate £20, and receive your FREE district tartan snood
3️⃣ Channel your inner mad giraffe and gallop, run, cycle, swim, dance, hop, skip, row, roll – in fact any form of exercise counts…even walking to the chippy! And remember, you can encourage people to support your efforts by setting up a JustGiving page.
4️⃣ Log your miles using the app.
5️⃣ Help your district become Doddie Aid 2022 champions 🏆
WHO CAN TAKE PART?
EVERYONE. There’s a district for all participants. Whether you live in your kilt and walk your haggis each morning, or just enjoy Gerard Butler films – we’re encouraging everyone from across the world to take part.
Scots have 4 districts to choose from, and we’d encourage everyone from outside Scotland to join the Barbarians (rest of world) team.
WHO IS DODDIE?
Doddie Weir OBE is one of rugby’s most recognisable personalities. He earned 61 caps for Scotland during a successful playing career, represented the British and Irish Lions on their successful tour to South Africa in 1997, and won championships with his two club sides, Melrose and Newcastle Falcons.
A talented, committed and athletic lock forward, Doddie is now facing his biggest challenge. In June 2017 the Scot revealed he was suffering from Motor Neuron Disease. From the outset, Doddie has been driven to help fellow sufferers and seek ways to further research into this, as yet, incurable disease.
In November 2017, Doddie and his trustees launched the registered charity, My Name’5 Doddie Foundation. Our vision is simple: A World Free of MND.
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
Motor Neuron Disease (MND) is a terminal illness that’s more common than you think – 1/300 people are at risk of developing MND in their lifetime. There is no cure.
But we want to change that. Our vision is a World Free of MND and we won’t stop until we’ve accomplished our goal. Last year raised a staggering £1M which went a long way to funding research and supporting people living with MND.
By taking part, you will be part of the cure – and have a heck of a lot of fun at the same time!
